The pixoundTM Maker tool suite contains everything you need to start producing pixound web pages and stand-alone applets that you can share with others.

With the Maker it is fun and easy to create cross-platform, image-based, interactive musical experiences. The pixound Maker is designed for use by anybody but especially interactive developers, musicians and artists. With these tools, creative individuals and teams can easily infuse any kind of graphic with interactive musical content of any style.

When we say interactive, it's an understatement. You don't just "trigger" musical events in a picture as with Flash or Beatnik, you play it! As you move your mouse around, it translates the color into music that sounds like what you are seeing. It's almost impossible to describe...like an entirely new sense somewhere between seeing and hearing has been awakened.

The experiences created with the Maker are currently distributed in two forms:

  1. The .pxd file which allows any web page to play pixound
  2. The pixound applet or pixApp™ for use off-line and which has many more interactive possibilities

Pixound enabled web pages are efficient users of Internet resources.

This page and many others throughout our site are Pixound enabled. If you downloaded and installed the pixound plug-in you should be able to play the pages in our example gallery. In fact you can play any page on the Internet!

Our 1K .pxd file, which activates the plug-in, is sent from web server to client in an instant. This short, low bandwidth transmission provides hours of musical enjoyment without further server demand. Pixound places no limits on the number of simultaneous connections to a web page.

Pixound web pages are typically used to provide interactive musical experiences, however if your web design requires passive background music, Pixound can provide it. Background play and many other controls settings can be sent to pixound from an HTML page via Javascript which can create mindblowing variations on the same page.

 

The pixAppTM contains all the image, musical, sound and code resources needed to play pixound off-line.

PixApps are as small as 100K or as large as the storage medium or practical download times will allow. Producers can create deep musical experiences by linking pixApps to each other and/or Director files. PixApps can be created for all color Macs (OS X and Windows soon).

The pixound Maker is the primary tool for integrating musical resources and graphic elements into cross-platform (Mac) pixApps and web pages. Using the Maker's event editor, you can build complex interactive actions into your pixApps without scripting.

pixSong

Our pixSong software lets you compose and save chord progression files for use with the pixound Maker. PixSong also allows the integration of Maker song event triggers into chord progressions.
